One of our oldest education sites.  Opened in 1846, as far as I can tell, near Old Swan.  Listed as separate Infant and Junior Schools in Slater’s 1859 Directory. In 1873, the school is the second building listed on Derby Lane. The first is William PYE, cowkeeper and the third is a carpet cleaning business!  Enlarged 1891 and 1897. Average attendance in 1900 about 700 pupils.

The school still has a playground on the roof, a typical feature of many schools of the time.

The school has its own website.
